Acer rubrum Northwood

Acer rubrum ‘Northwood’

Excellent fall colors of orange and almost red. Good clean summer foliage. Silver-grey bark not as susceptible to sun scald, but should still have protection while younger trees still have thin bark. Large round crown makes a nice shade tree for large areas. Optimum growth, as with all red maples, will occur in moist, slightly acidic soil. Use soil acidifier and/or iron amendment to prevent iron chlorosis.
